For the Final Portfolio assignment, I was tasked to develop a body of 4 works using a theme and strategy or method that unifies them. The theme that I chose to explore with my pieces was, the inner child because as college students we get caught up with the stress of academic success and societal pressures, so we sometimes neglect our inner child. I wanted my work to help remind its viewers to have fun and be playful in life.
I incorporated small characters from various Studio Ghibli films including, Princess Mononoke, Ponyo, Spirited Away, and My Neighbor Totoro. Studio Ghibli films were a significant part of my childhood and reminds me of spending time with my older siblings. The many other elements that my works are made with came from photos that I found my camera roll. Another technique that shows up in all 4 pieces are are the digitally drawn backgrounds.
